Blockhead - Triptych Pt. 3

I love those effects. They mess with your head in a big way; it all makes you think the video is corrupted in some way. The look is very reminiscent of the end result of Canzona's work.

re: wikileaks

I've been trying to keep a fairly close eye on the movements of Wikileaks ever since the release of the video entitled 'Collateral Murder'.

Three years later, this remains the best TED talk I've seen.

More of Sir Ken's work:

The text below is an extract of the description that accompanies the second video.
Ken Robinson has written numerous books, most recently "The Element: How Finding Your Passion Changes Everything." This talk explores ways to connect peoples' natural aptitudes with their personal passions to achieve at their highest levels in education and business. Aphex Twin - Jynweythek

We both said a lot of things that you are going to regret.

Backstory : Beck - Paper tiger

When asked about the Serge Gainsbourg influence, Beck responded with the following:

"I've always listened to him. When Air came out, some of the other mellow (French) pop musicans I felt like it was their territory. I've been listening to Gainsbourg for years and I've always wanted to do something influenced by him. To me, a record like Melody Nelson has so many possibilities.

But when we were making the record, I wanted to do something with strings that was very dramatic. And we were listening to that. And we ended up with something that sounded exactly like it. I didn't intend that. But we did it and it came out so good, in my opinon, it sounded like a tribute. But it transcended that. And it was a good song. I remember, my producer is very particular about that kind of thing. I was like: 'I don't know, can we put this out?' And he said: 'It's fine. It's a good piece of work.' But yeah, I love the way Gainsbourg uses the orchestras. It's not afraid to be dramatic and bold and emotional. There's something really cool about the sound too."

[I know I'm a terrible person for not properly referencing the quote. I can't find the original context in which it appeared. If someone knows, and has the audacity to pipe up, tell me so I can put my anxieties to rest. God help us all if the quote is a fabrication.]

Massive Attack - Paradise Circus

All of the stuff I pile up is a sort of second body, my twin. I am Michael Rosenwald, and those piles -- the books, magazines, fountain pens, inks, newspapers, everything -- are also me. The more I have of it, the more I am me. Up there in front of the class, I was beginning to confuse myself, and then I felt as if I might cry.

I blurted this out to the class: "What would I be without it all?"

re: book banning

This was originally brought to my attention in a post on the Penny Arcade forums.

Don’t ask me why I did it, but here it is.

“downgrading Christians”
“talking about firemen”

Perhaps foolishly, I had assumed that the pagination of my copy of the book(republished in '78) was the same as that relied upon by the Philistine who drafted the original list of objections. I wanted to see if I could, for shits and giggles if nothing else, find out what they had classified as "dirty talk".

I wish I was making this up, but in my copy of the book, across the span between pages 75 and 76 is one of my favourite exchanges in that entire book.

"His name was Faber, and when looking at the sky and the trees and the green park, and when an hour had passed he said something to Montag and Montag sensed it was a rhymeless poem. Then the old man grew even more courageous and said something else and that was a poem, too. Faber held his hand over his left coat-pocket and spoke these words gently, and Montag knew if he reached out, he might pull out a book of poetry from the man's coat. But he did not reach out. His hands stayed on his knee, numbed and useless. "I don't talk things, sir," said Faber. "I talk the meaning of things. I sit here and know I'm alive."

That was all there was to it, really. An hour of monologue, a poem, a comment, and then without even acknowledging the fact that Montag was a fireman, Faber with a certain trembling, wrote his address on a slip of paper. "for your file," he said, "in case you decide to be angry with me."
"I'm not angry," Montag said, surprised.

Part of my job as coroner is to make recommendations to prevent similar deaths. Well I recommend that parents and those responsible for children supervise their children and ensure that they have boundaries set for them and ensure, as far as possible, that children go to bed, stay there, sleep, get up in the morning and go to school and go about “age-appropriate” activities.

If parents and those others responsible for children do not do this then they fail their children.
